Dashboard Week Day 5: Princess Leia Is Everyone’s Favorite, and Other Star Wars Statistics

by Andy Kriebel

This morning on my way to the DS, I was listening to the NPR Politics Podcast and they have this great segment at the end of each show called “Can’t Let It Go”. One of the hosts was talking about Star Wars and a poll about people’s favorite characters (she hates Jar Jar Binks). I’m going with the family to see Episode VIII Sunday so I thought it only appropriate that we look at the demographics of  Star Wars fans.

This article from Morning Consult has a couple of vizzes in it including this viz about character favorability.

What’s quite fantastic is the 268 page PDF that’s linked in the article. Inside, there’s some fantastic polling data about Star Wars including all kinds of demographics about the people that responded. There’s a section for each movie and for each character.

So here’s what the team has to do:

  1. Split into two groups: half will look at the movies, half will look at the characters
  2. Get the data from the PDF
  3. Prep the data
  4. Creating something interesting by 3pm GMT, then be prepared to present to all of you followers. Join us here.

And with that, another dashboard week is in the books. I can’t wait to see what they deliver today.
