DS Training Blog - Week 8

by Isabel Cooper

As DS27 approached the halfway point of our training, we had quite a challenging week with lots of things to juggle that definitely tested our time management skills.

Monday: we started the day with the kick off call for our first ever external client project. It was also a joint project with DS26, which added the extra challenge of working in a larger group than we are used to. Monday was spent mostly on getting to grips with the data we’d been provided with. In the afternoon, we also had our client project presentations from the week before as these had been rescheduled. Overall the presentation went well, and Client Carl seemed fairly pleased with what we’d produced.

Tuesday: on Tuesday we kicked off our Learn What the Data School Learns sessions that we’d been preparing for over the previous weeks. Today we covered Tableau, and I led a session in the morning on using sets. In the afternoon, those of us who weren’t in LWTDSL had Tableau Time with Andy. We created lots of different chart types, and also went through a Tableau test we’d had a few weeks before.

Wednesday: half of our cohort were teaching their Alteryx sessions today in LWTDSL. The rest of us had Tableau time in the morning with Jack, where we covered the analytics pane. We spent the rest of the day working on our client project.

Thursday: we had a session with Andy in the morning where we had the opportunity to give feedback on how we have found the training so far. Next, we had Tableau time with Carl where we covered dashboard interactivity, and then had the afternoon to focus on our project.

Friday: the morning was spent finalising the work on our project, and doing a practice run-through of the presentation. After lunch we had the project presentation with the client, which went really well. We had some helpful feedback from Andy afterwards about our presentation styles, and that concluded another week in training!
