Designing a dashboard for text to speech

by Joel Akaje-Macauley

For the visually impaired, dyslexic and illiterate the text to speech (TTS) function is very useful to incorporate into a workbook.

You must think about the flow that the text to speech must progress through your dashboard.

To activate text to speech you can press control+start+enter. To progress through the page press tab and to go backwards press shift+tab.

Things to watch out for: Text to speach text boxes will not be picked up, use a sheet with text put onto the actual worksheet.

Putting text onto your sheets and coloring them white to remove visual noise but be available for those who use text to speech.

If you use KPI's that filter know that once you have tabbed past this section not many will tab backwards to see these change if not prompted. Possibly putting in KPI's that are filtered at the bottom may be a viable solution.

Lastly putting in a download button is very good practice or data you want to be downloadable as anyone with specific needs can then use that data in their own way to draw their insights.

More will be done to show an actual example of one that can work well with TTS
