Got an intersting dataset, but struggling to come up with ideas for your viz? Grab a pen and a piece of paper and sketch out your ideas!
Divide your sheet into six smaller sections and draw a simple viz into each of them. It doesn’t have to be very detailed, but should give you a general idea of what you’re trying to achieve. Don’t overthink it; you can always work out what works and what doesn’t afterwards. It also helps if you set yourself a time limit of 5 – 10 min.
During our session with Caroline Beavon on design and inforgraphics we were tasked to sketch different ideas to visualise our important events in our life. You can see for yourself what I came up with (my favourite is the middle one on the left.
