Power BI From The Eyes of a Tableau User

Clear enough but still blurry

The control Tableau gives you allows you to fine-tune your vision to your liking.

when working with Power Bi it felt like I was building around someone else's vision.  The charts are almost premade for you and the limited formatting and tools cumulate to a less fun visualizing playground.

That being said Power BI is very easy to pick up thanks to its similar layout to other Microsoft tools which most people have been accustomed to through years of education.

The web scrapping is really impressive in power BI. It was shockingly simple to access data from a site like IMBD. The data cleaning is very simple as well as it is basically a dedicated data cleaning version of Excel titled Power Query Editor.

Power BI and Power Query Editor work hand and hand allowing for easy data manipulation back and forth when needed.

However, I much rather have calculated Fields from Tableau to do any simple calculations that involve combining two or more measures. Going in and out of The Query Editor is quick but still a pain for simple calculations.

I really enjoy the freedom of making multiple charts on the same canvas. This allowed me to have an easier time conceptualizing my layout and quickly adding/removing charts.

The quick access to so many different chart types is really impressive. It is far more advanced than Tableau's Show me. However, as advanced as those options are the formatting of those charts is equally limited. This results in me feeling like I much rather edit this chart in Tableau.

Furthermore, the amount of clicking and searching in Power BI for simple formatting options such as changing the title is unhealthy.

I really enjoy the concept of building everything and then changing the theme to give it a complete makeover. Furthermore, you can save the template of your dashboard and rescue it with a completely different dataset later if you wish. This is a feature I would adore if in Tableau.

Overall, Power BI is not Tableau. There are things it prioritizes that tableau doesn't and vice versa. My eyes see further in Tableau and my vision is clear. In power BI, they are near-sighted but see quickly.

This is My first Product Produced using Power BI
