How to Research Your Client Before Meeting Them

Are you starting your placement at one of the leading engineering companies that manufacture cars for Formula 1, or are you about to begin at one of the leading UK consultancy firms? It's crucial to be well-prepared for your first client meeting by demonstrating that you've conducted thorough research.

Here's a comprehensive list of questions to ask yourself and research:

  1. What does the company do, and when was it founded?
  2. Who are their biggest competitors?
  3. What is the company's most significant challenge?
  4. What is the industry's primary challenge?
  5. How does this company rank within the industry?
  6. What is their profit margin?
  7. How many customers do they serve?
  8. What are their data-related challenges, and how can you assist them?
  9. What recent developments have occurred within the company?
  10. What is the history of the client or project?

While researching the company is essential, as you can see from the list above, investigating your client's competitors and understanding the challenges faced by the industry are equally important. If your Google search doesn't provide enough information, consider alternative sources. Explore major news websites, regulatory bodies within the industry, app reviews, social media channels, and connect with individuals who have previously worked there. Get creative in your research efforts!

Good Luck.
