SQL/Snowflake with Will Sutton

Last week we had the Iron Viz Champ Will Sutton teach us SQL. Will Sutton began with a demo on a tableau showing the percentage of Employer wanting a certain skill. Listed were Excel, SQL, Tableau, Python, and R. SQL was approximately 50%. This show how valuable it is and useful skill to have. The original plan was to login to Snowflake. However, we did not have an account, so we did SQL Bolt instead. SQL bolt was an interesting exercise to start practicing and learning SQL. After some time, we were able to login into Snowflake. We start going through the exercises that were on the slides. We start learning the correct syntax and structure of the language. Double quotes are needed when you have a database where the header have spaces in it. We also learn how much it cost to run a query in Snowflake and the story of having it run over the weekend. Will Sutton restructure the class and the slide to best fits our need. Showing us best practice in typing SQL. SQL isn’t precise in telling what type of error it is. However, it does key into where the error it is occurring. It was useful when Will Sutton was walking around to see the type of error and help clarify it. We also put our SQL knowledge to the test with a SQL Murder mystery. Additionally, we also start doing some practice in Code War.  Learning SQL with Will Sutton was fun.
