What is the difference between the Q and the Lighting Bolt anchors in tools in Alteryx?

DS33 are in week 3 of their training and most of this week was spent using Alteryx training and prepping for the core certification test on Friday. On Thursday, we were introduced to Macros.

One of the big questions that came up is what anchor to connect to using the tools: the Q anchor (which is the Question anchor) or the Lighting Bolt anchor.

Essentially, both the Lighting Bolt anchor and the Q anchor relay information to tell a workflow tool or an application how to change depending on what the user wants you to do.

The Q and the Lighting Bolt anchors

The main difference is that think of the Q as an Input that eventually will change the value itself whereas the Lighting Bolt would be the method that would allow the user to update the workflow.

The Q anchor is where the Interface tools come in and get connected with the Action tools where then it will continue down the workflow.

On the other hand, the Lighting Bolt connection would have the user value that was inputted from the Interface tool and would also show the method of what is being done in the action and how it will update the workflow.
