Tableau Simples #1: Grid Lines

by Henry Mak

Welcome to Tableau Simples, a blog series which aims to give you small Tableau techniques and tips... in a short and simple way.

The first post in this series will be about gridlines and how you can turn them on. Turning these on will definitely help you align objects within your dashboard. How many times has that part of your brain been triggered because something is juuuuuust out of alignment?

I mean before I learnt of this feature I legitimately used a ruler and put it against my screen to line things up…

Without further ado:

Step 1: At the top of Tableau, click ‘Dashboard’

Step 2: Click ‘Show Grid’

Step 3: Voila!

If you’d like to turn off the gridlines, just press ‘Show Grid’ again. Note: Gridlines will not show in the final dashboard in any case.
