Progress Bars in Power BI

Progress bars are a great way of visualising progress towards a specific target or goal. For our workout Wednesday this week we were tasked with creating a series of progress bars in Power BI, shown below.

To create progress bars in Power BI you use clustered bar charts (one bar for the progress and one for the target) and allow the bars to overlap, ensuring the space between the series is 100% and adjusting the space between the categories. You can even use error bars to round the ends of your bars as shown in the chart on the bottom right.

Whether you're tracking sales targets, project milestones, or personal goals, progress bars are a great tool to have in your arsenal when designing dashboards in Power BI!
