Yesterday we passed our Alteryx Core Certification!
We received a lots of tips from previous Data Schoolers and I wanted to compile the ones I have used on here!
1) Have some simple text inputs ready to use. Some of the questions during the core certification use simple datasets with 2 columns of text. If you have a similar dataset already created you will be able to recreate the question in Alteryx and therefore check your answers. This will allow you to quickly find answers instead of hesitating between multiple possible answers.
2) Have some dates in another text input. Questions can be about the date time tool, knowing and remembering the different formats can be hard, so make sure you have some dates to turn in to a string or the opposite some strings to turn into dates. This will help you win time on any hesitation you could have based on date format.
3) For questions about strings, especially positions, feel free to recreate the string and the question they are asking about. This will help you avoid silly mistakes such as counting mistakes, not seeing a comma etc. We all get stressed in time questionnaires, make sure that you avoid loosing points from stress!
4) When asked about specific tools, make sure to use the examples provided by Alteryx. If you right click a tool on the tool selection menu, you can 'open example' this will allow to see different ways to use the tool and therefore answer the questions.
5) Some questions are directly about Alteryx Designer, for these I recommend either using the Alteryx Documentation and google. Another thing to remember is that questions are multiple choice. Meaning you can answer them by process of elimination, if you are asked about the location of certain features, just check all answers until you find the right one!
6) Like all times questionnaires, you will be nervous but remember to take your times, read every single word in the question (probably twice), don't spend too long on a question you don't know the answer to, come back to it at the end of the quizz.
Remember to not get too pressured as you can take this exam every week!
Best of luck to all of you taking the core certification! I hope this helps :)
