For the next 2 days, we’d like DS50 to take on a challenge set by Tableau themselves! Data + TV invites you to find data stories about the TV series you love, from IMDb data. When DS50 make a submission they’ll even get a free DataFam Discovery Kit with a value of $100, so the stakes are high!
Since this is a challenge set by Tableau, DS50 should use Tableau Prep for their data preparation needs and Tableau Desktop to build their visualisation. We’d like this to be an infographic dashboard. Infographics are usually highly stylised and static, they could be printed off and displayed in all their glory. DS50 should check Tableau Community entries for inspiration, but bear in mind that images must be copyright free to be included! (More details can be found here)
Each member of the cohort must choose a different story. As we are on the theme of Summer here are some ideas of focus:
- Analysis of top summer premiere TV shows over the years
- The rise of summer reality shows like Love Island or Too Hot To Handle
- Actors known for summer blockbusters vs summer TV dramas
- Comparing network vs streaming trends for summer releases
- A history of iconic summer sitcom episodes
- Genre analysis of shows that launch in July and August
- Top-rated beach, holiday, or road trip TV episodes
They must communicate with one another to ensure there is no overlap and create a post before 11am Wednesday morning to make sure their coach is happy with their topics that they’ve chosen. Each person must have wrote a blog by the deadline and published their work to Tableau Public!
Presentations will be at 3:30pm on Thursday. Good luck!
