What is Einstein?
The Einstein Copilot is a new feature introduced in Tableau Next that helps with the creation of calculated fields.
The aim of Einstein is to convert natural language into formulas, letting you write formulas in plain language rather than digging into the syntax manually.
This new feature makes advanced calculations available to users who may not be familiar with Tableau's query language syntax, hoping to speed up the creation of calculations and reduce error in writing formulas.
Be aware:
- The AI is still capable of generating incorrect formulas - every formulas that is generated with Einstein must still be reviewed.
- You still need clean, well-labeled data and correct terminology. This makes the AI's job much easier and reduces the chance of it making a mistake.
- The AI relies on you being specific in your query request - you have to be as detailed as possible in order to get the most out of the AI (otherwise it won't know what you're talking about!)
Einstein only operates within making calculated fields. All calculated fields are created from within your semantic model.
When creating a calculated field, you will see a "Draft with Einstein" dropdown at the top of the pane.

Write in plain language what you want Einstein to generate, and then click the "Draft with Einstein" button just below.

Einstein will then generate the formula at the bottom.
Remember - always review the code that it has written, as the AI is of course still capable of incorrectly writing it or writing it in a non-performative way / a way that is not suitable for you.
Below are some examples of how you can use "Draft with Einstein" for various calculations:
Level of Detail (LOD) calculations

Rank calculations

String calculations
