Dashboard Week Day 2: Do pay transparency policies reduce the gender pay gap?

Our second day of Dashboard week involved PowerBI, data prep in PowerQuery, and data about wages around the world.

I started my day by thinking about potential stories, so that I could start picking the datasets I wanted to use. Initially I thought about using

Some trends I found were:
-Countries with a higher average wage are more likely to have pay transparency policies

At this point I decided to narrow it down to Costa Rica and Colombia, which had very similar trends, while being very distinct from the other countries in the dataset. In particular:
-Most countries in the dataset had higher gender inequality amongst the top earners. Costa Rica and Colombia subvert this trend, and also have their lowest income inequality in the bottom decile.

Looking back, the story I chose had lots of potential and interesting trends, but it was too difficult to fully explore, explain and tie together. There was too much variability and would have required a lot more research to pull it off, definitely not something to be done in one day.
