Dashboard Week: Day 4

Today we were tasked with creating a dashboard in Tableau using Path of Exile economy data.

First thing I did was create a plan. This time I decided to check with someone else at TIL who had already done this task to see if I had split my time well. Big thanks to Thomas Duong who amended my plan – more time on research!

Next I started by exploring the data and creating a sketch. I wanted to try and scope the plan to be as manageable as possible so I decided to only focus on either currency files or item files. I took some time trying to understand each of these files and came to the conclusion that currency files showed the value for each item when traded. I asked on convo to be sure and whilst waiting for an answer I started on the currency files. I think in future I should have asked the question earlier or once deciding to use currency files continue with that route. In alteryx I  quickly decided that I wanted to streamline the alteryx processing speed as much as possible. To do this I only inputted 5 leagues. I also filtered for only high confidence values as then I could be sure that the values inputted were accurate and outputted the file as a hyper file.

After my question was answered on convo it turned out that the item files showed the value of items to the standardised item of a chaos orb – which I thought was pretty useful so I created another flow:

I tried using this file in a few graphs but in the end didn’t use it so I think this was one of those times I should have just stopped before going down the rabbit hole.

I unfortunately didn’t get the button idea to work however I did manage to complete most of my scope so pretty happy about that. Future steps would be to combine the highlight parameter on the first chart to filter the second so there are less toggles, to finish the button and to include more leagues in the alteryx flow.
