Confessions of a Data Newbie: The DS48 Chronicles

Hello, all!!

I’m Sandy, proud member of DS48 at the Data School, embarking on an exciting two-year adventure into the world of data analytics. A few days in, and I’m already asking myself: What exactly have I signed up for?

The Role of a Data Analytics Consultant

It turns out, it’s a two-fold gig:

  1. The Data Pro: You’re the expert. Prepping, analysing, and presenting data in ways that are clear, actionable, and aligned with the client’s needs. Staying sharp on the latest tools and trends is non-negotiable.
  2. The Fresh Perspective: You’re also a bit of a data therapist—offering a fresh pair of eyes to help organizations rethink their approach to data. It’s about reshaping strategies to help them hit their goals, one insight at a time.

The Key to Doing It Well

Initially, I thought it was all about mastering the technical side: prepping, analysing, and visualizing. But just a few days in, I’ve realized something bigger: it’s about the people. Building connections, understanding a company’s motivations and culture—that’s what elevates good analysis to great.

After all, data doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It’s the human element that brings it to life.

Cheers to DS48

I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity. The road to getting here wasn’t easy, and I know how lucky I am to be part of this. So here’s to DS48—let’s smash it, one data set at a time!

Carrie Bradshaw might’ve wondered about love and relationships, but here I am, pondering the analytics life: Can data bring clarity to the chaos? Only time will tell. 😊

Song of the Day:
