Dashboard Week Day 2: Numbers API

For Dashboard Week day 2, DS51 will be diving into the Numbers API and getting creative building a dashboard in Power BI!

The Numbers API provides trivia, mathematical facts and historical events all centered around numbers, for example:

  • Trivia (e.g. "1729 is the Hardy–Ramanujan number")
  • Math (e.g. "6 is the smallest perfect number")
  • Dates (e.g. "On July 20th, 1969, the first man walked on the Moon")
  • Years (e.g. "In 1989, the Berlin Wall fell")

Using this API you can fetch facts about specific numbers or generate them randomly. You can also request facts by category or even loop through all the days of the year.

The Challenge

DS51 will have until 3.30pm to complete the following tasks:

  • Connect to the Numbers API directly from Power BI
  • Extract and load as much data as they need
  • Build a dashboard to explore what interests them - whether that’s highlighting fun facts, identifying patterns in trivia, or creating a calendar view of interesting events
  • Publish the dashboard to their Power BI workspaces, ready to present!

DS51 will have to present their dashboards at 3.30pm, and finish up the day by writing a blog about this challenge! Good luck DS51!
