Let’s Get to Know Each Other!

My name is Svetlana, and I recently became a Data School Consultant. This post is a great opportunity to get to know me better 😊

Ever since school, I’ve had a passion for Maths and IT – thanks to my engineer parents and IT brothers. I used to spend entire summer holidays with a book full of math exercises 🤓 I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to be when I grew up, but then one day I saw this building and became obsessed...

That’s Lomonosov Moscow State University – the top university in Russia.
And the photo is a bit of a spoiler: that’s me holding my Bachelor's diploma in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science 😜 The journey was much harder and longer than a photo can show: thousands of hours of studying, kilometers of handwritten notes, dozens of exams...
But also, priceless experiences and amazing people! It was all definitely worth it!

In my final year at university, I landed a position as an Analyst on the Data Quality Control Team at an IT consulting company. It was my first real experience with data analysis – and I loved it. My main goal was to improve data quality by building control systems and analyzing problem cases. After implementing the new quality controls, data quality in the department improved by 12%!

Due to political situation, I moved to Germany almost three years ago. Since then, I’ve learned German from scratch to the point where I can present the results of my work. I’ve continued developing myself as a data analyst through open-source courses and volunteering with various non-profit organizations, mostly focused on human rights. I contributed by creating reports, maintaining and developing databases, and planning data flows. It was a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience with different tools such as Airtable, Tableau and Notion.

Some random facts to add a bit of positivity:

  • I love dancing and did ballroom dancing for about 10 years 💃
  • I love reading, but I rarely have the motivation to finish a book, so I started a reading club with my friends to keep myself on track 📚
  • My cat’s name is Sweety, but honestly, “Give me food and leave me alone” would suit her better 😼

Thanks for reading, now you know me a little better 😚
