Interview Tips

by Tara Robinson

Coming to the end of the Data School training, you hopefully will recieve some interviews for future placements. This blog is to give tips for when preparing for an interview for a placement.

1. Read about the company. Having background knowledge is always useful, it allows for you to see if this is something you would like to work with. As well as this it usually is a question that comes up - for example what do you already know about the company?

2. Speak to people who have been on placement there. You can ask them about their experience and what skills you will be using. You can also ask them what their interview process is like.

3. Find out what softwares you will be using so for example if the company mostly uses Alteryx, Tableau, SQL, etc.

4. Always have some examples ready to talk about ( you might be asked to walk through something you have done, so it is nice to be prepared). It is also good to have examples ready to talk about nonetheless as it allows the client to get an understanding of what you have done.

5. Always have a couple of questions to ask at the end, this shows the client you are interested about the company and it also helps yourself know if this is for you.

Final tip try not to stress to much for these or get upset if you don't get it. Think of it as interview practice and this is always good experience. Also you are still in a job at the data school. If you end up on bench this is where you can learn and push yourself further before going on placement.
