Buttons and Bookmarks in Power BI - Beginners Edition

🎯 What Are Buttons in Power BI?

Buttons are clickable elements that allow users to:

  • Navigate to another page
  • Show/hide visuals
  • Reset filters
  • Trigger bookmarks

Think of them like simple action triggers — similar to a hyperlink or tab in a webpage.

📑 What Are Bookmarks?

Bookmarks capture the current state of a report page, including:

  • Visible or hidden visuals
  • Filters and slicers
  • Sorting and page focus

You can then “bookmark” this state and return to it later with a button.

In this blog we are going to focus on how to use bookmarks as useable buttons in Power BI reports.

Lets go through an example together...

Client Request:

“We’d like to add a toggle button to the report that allows users to switch between a bar chart and a map view, both occupying the same space on the report page.”
