Alteryx Server

User Roles and Permissions

User roles are defined in Server Admin interface by the server administrators, also called Curators. User roles what each user can do on the server and how they can use the assets on the Server.

User Roles

Gallery users can have one of the following roles assigned: Curator, Artisan, Member, Viewer, No access or Default. I will go in more detail to explain the difference between each of them.

Curator is the highest level user. They are also called Server admins. They can access the Admin interface and do everything an Artisan can do.

Artisans can publish, run and share workflows. They can use either use shared collections or their private workspaces (My workspace) or Studios in the older versions.

Members are allowed to view and run public workflows and workflows that are shared with them via collections.

Viewers are allowed run public workflows on web browser.

Users with no access are users that are blocked to all workflows and server assets.

Default in the context of user roles is the default user role assigned in the Gallery configurations.

User Permissions

Apart from assigning user roles, users are also assigned user permissions to control what users can see and the in the server.

Schedule Jobs permissions allows user to schedule runs of workflows at desired time and frequency.

Prioritize Jobs permission allows the user to prioritise a job which determines what jobs to run with priority on the jobs queue.

Tagging Jobs allows the user to assign who has to run the workflow.

Creating New Collections allows the user to create collections.

API Access gives permission to the user to access the Server API.

It is important to understand how the roles and hierarchy works in Alteryx Server. A new user assumes a default user role unless otherwise specified. Alteryx Server roles are evaluated in this order: user role, group role and default role. This means that a default user is assigned role other than default and they are given permission to a group then Server assumes the group role.

And one final and very important note - users cannot be delete users because the ownership of work cannot be transferred. Users that are not active go to inactive mode.
