DS29 - Dashboard Week Day 1 - Federal Infrastructure Projects

It's a short week here in the UK as we get ready to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. It's also DS29's last week of training. As has become tradition, the final week is now dashboard week. Here's how it works:

  1. They must work independently, unless otherwise specified.
  2. If data prep is required, they can use Alteryx or Prep. They may be asked to use one or the other though, so they better pay attention to the requirements.
  3. They must create a sketch of the plan for their dashboard. It must be a genuine effort; just creating a bunch of boxes on a page won't do it for me; I'm looking for thoughtful planning.
  4. The dashboard they create must be uploaded to Tableau Public.
  5. They must write a blog post detailing their work throughout the day.
  6. At 3:30pm, they will present their data prep, sketch, viz, and anything else they would like to present.

From the Permitting Dashboard website:

The Permitting Dashboard is an online tool for Federal agencies, project developers, and interested members of the public to track the Federal government’s environmental review and authorization processes for large or complex infrastructure projects, part of a government-wide effort to improve coordination, transparency, and accountability.

There's lot of information about the data set and the purpose of it on the website. The data can be found here. The focus of the project today needs to be on analysis, not design. I don't care how the dashboard looks; I want to see insights and, in particular, how those insights were derived.
