Dashboard Week Day 3 or How to download multiple files with Alteryx

by Natasha Kurakina

Dashboard week is in full swing and the pressure is on. Today’s assignment is here,  join along it’s a lot of fun!

Alteryx Workflow

Today’s data was in multiple files, so the challenge was to download multiple csv files at once, as every country’s data was in a separate file. I’ve never done this before, so I spent some time on Google in the morning.

Firstly, I needed to get a full list of countries. I did this by copying part of the html code from the website, and importing it into Alteryx as a text file with the xml file format did all the parsing magic.

I made a short video walking through my Alteryx workflow. After downloading all the files, data prep was short and easy, though I iterated a few times to reshape my data after initial exploration in Tableau.

Like yesterday, I wanted to practice a new chart type. It didn’t work out well at the beginning, because my data was again in the wrong shape. At the end of the day Andy helped me, and created a very complicated calculation, but it worked!
