Welcome to
The Data School

Over the last five years The Information Lab has trained thousands of people to use Tableau and Alteryx. Now we’ve set our sights on creating the next generation of data Jedis.

What’s the Data School About?

Over the last five years, the team at The Information Lab has trained thousands of people to use Tableau and Alteryx. Our team includes nine Tableau certified trainers, two Tableau Zen Masters and one Alteryx Ace – all people who regularly spend time helping others learn these great technologies.Whilst we’ve been developing this training capability, we have watched Tableau and Alteryx achieve spectacular growth – Tableau had less than 100 staff globally when we first partnered with them and today they have over 2000.

As Tableau and Alteryx have been growing fast, the largest companies in the UK have been adopting these technologies for increasingly ambitious projects – ambitious in both scale and complexity.

As a partner of both Tableau and Alteryx, a key role is to help ensure this momentum continues. The Information Lab is playing a part in this by using our training experience to create the next generation of Tableau and Alteryx Jedis.

The school will be open from June 2015 and will take applications throughout the year, from prospective students looking to embarque on a career in data. We anticipate starting a new class 3 or 4 times a year.

We will be providing over four months of focussed training from some of the best trainers in the world, led by our head coach Andy Kriebel, in order to give students a deep understanding of how to store, manage, prepare and visualise data.

Once trained, graduates of the school will be available for industry placements at clients using Tableau & Alteryx – the first class of consultants are anticipated to be available from October 2015.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will the application process for the next intake start?

In the next few weeks we will be starting the process for the next intake. Please be sure you are registered to receive details of timings and assessment process.

Do successful applicants to the school have to pay for tuition?

No. You will be paid to attend the school. You will become an employee of The Information Lab on a fixed term contract for two years. Expect to spend four (4) months in the school and then the remainder of the time working on placements with clients.

Can The Information Lab provide sponsorship for individuals without working visas for the UK.

Not currently. We may offer this in the future.

What kind of clients can I expect to get placements/consult with?

Expect to work for clients who have large data problems. Whilst these could occur in just about any industry sector, we anticipate placements being with large financial services clients, as well as Retail and Media clients.

What’s the time commitment?

A place at the The Information Lab School of Data is a job. You should be committed to work full time. We don’t expect it to feel like work though, we expect it to be a lot of fun!

Do I get some kind of certification/qualification?

There is no formal qualification planned from the school. You will, however, be expected to take certification exams in Tableau Server, Tableau Desktop and Alteryx.

What can I do to have the best chance at getting a place?

We’re asking for people to submit work built in Tableau Public. Review the Tableau Public Gallery and check out the featured authors to see the quality of work published by other authors and try to emulate their work.

Can I attend without being an employee?

No. Attendees of the School will be on a two-year fixed term contract to The Information Lab.

Are there details about what I’ll learn?

The focus of the school is to make the students brilliant analysts. To do this, we need to cover a wide variety of hard and soft skills. A great amount of time will be spent learning Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server and Alteryx. You’ll also spend a lot of time learning how to become a good presenter, how to tell stories, how to work with clients, etc. At the end of four months, you’ll be an incredibly well-rounded analyst.

Where is the school located?

The School is located at 33 Cannon Street, in the heart of the City of London.
