DS27 Training Blog - Week 17 | The Last Week of Training

by Marius Nikiforovas

After four months of training, it is all over for DS27. This week marks the official end of our 4-month training.

Oh wow, what a journey it was... 4 months ago we did not know each other, nor did we know Alteryx or Tableau Prep (not to mention our "favourite" tool - Salesforce), but we got along quite quickly and became a part of the Data School's family. Occasional TIL breakfasts, casual wiff waff (better known as table tennis) and Friday drinks might have made this all feel like a dream. But it was not a dream. It was real, it was great, it was awesome and I am sure that the best is yet to come!
On behalf of DS27, thanks to the coaches, core team and the rest of TIL family making these 4 months as great as they were.

But now let's dig into what has happened on the last week of DS27 training.
Monday: we started the day with an introduction to Mockaroo by mocking up some data for our Salesforce exercise. The second half of the day was spent importing and exporting the data we've just mocked up through Data Loader into and out of our Salesforce instances.

Tuesday: we carried on with our Salesforce exercise, importing and exporting data. By the end of the day, it became a bit repetitive, which was the main struggle of the team, but it gave a useful understanding of different Salesforce objects (tables) and how they interact with each other. This was vital knowledge later in the week when we found out what this week's project was. We also covered things like the Salesforce interface, uploading the dashboard to Salesforce and dashboard embedding.

Wednesday: following the Tableau test last Friday, we had a session with Lorna to ask any test-related questions and go over the topics we found difficult. This was definitely time well spent as many of us struggled in the final test. Our next and final session for the day was accessibility in design with Louisa. We've covered the common disabilities in dashboard design and spoke about how we could make our dashboards more accessible to a wider audience. Main takeaway, screen readers are a pain, so let's not make it even more painful than it has to be.

Thursday: the day we found out what our final project is. You've guessed it - Salesforce! The task was to pick an industry, research it and create an industry-focused dashboard using Mockaroo and Salesforce. This was building upon the knowledge and processes we went through on Monday/Tuesday, but it did not take us long to figure that it was not as easy as it sounds...

Friday: however, the team prevailed and actually created a bunch of great presentations with some even having fake roles and play like elements. We all agreed that these were some of the most entertaining presentations we had so far. And a fun way to end DS27'th final week.

Of course, this was not the end of the day, our Friday presentation was followed with beer, pizza and a trip to the local pub.

Congratulations, team, we are officially The Data School consultants!
